The Last Two Days of Trying a Different Game Every Day

For December 30- 31

Check out what I played last week

As I wrap up 2024, I am also playing the last two games for the year. It’s been an incredible run. I’m glad that I managed to go the full year trying a different game. At the same time, I’m happy it’s over so I can give myself more time to enjoy the games I want. Thanks for reading this and I hope you have a wonderful 2025. Be sure to stay tuned for my plans for 2025 where I dedicate a week to trying a new game and sharing my thoughts.

December 30 – Final Fantasy V

Earlier this year, I finally finished Final Fantasy IV. It’s a game I started in early 2023 but other things got in the way while I was about halfway through. Of the pre-16 bit era of Final Fantasy, I’ve only ever finished Final Fantasy III. I do mean the actual FFIII, and it was the Nintendo DS version. After finishing FFIV, I thought about trying Final Fantasy V.

Because there are many ways to play FFV, I don’t know which route to go. I have it on PlayStation but I didn’t feel like digging up Final Fantasy Anthology. The GBA version is available through emulation, but I thought against that. I bought the Pixel Remaster collection this year. When I heard that the music there was incredible and it was the recommended version on Reddit, I went that route. Yes, the music is incredible and so far, it’s the standout aspect of the game.

On top of having a fantastic score, FFV is also where we get to see the Job system take the front row. After loving vocations in Dragon Quest III, the idea of job swapping to build a great squad is intriguing. Unfortunately, the first hour of this game is light on the combat, so my characters are still low-level.

December 31 – MiSide

There were a few games I was considering as my last game for 2024. I decided to play the current “viral” game, MiSide. Some people have compared it to the Doki Doki Literature Club, which I finally got to try earlier this year. I liked how that game surprised me, so I was expecting the same thing here. After the first hour, I can agree that MiSide is a bonkers experience.

This revolves around you and the main character from your mobile game. The character, Mita, manages to transport you to her game world. This might seem cool at first, but it unravels once you “discover” that she has ulterior motives. She’s kidnapped you and has no plans to ever send you back to the real world.

There is a bit more to the game than that. It appears that this Mita is a bugged version and others are in the game. You encounter a “good” Mita, who assists you in trying to escape. But, this could be a red herring, so don’t take what I’m saying here as fact.

MiSide seems to be about a 4-5 hour experience. At this point, I’ve played about 90 minutes and I’m starting to hope it was getting close to the end. It does feel like I should expect a few more twists. If this drags on unnecessarily, that would sour me. This feels better as a 2-3 hour experience than something that goes on longer than it should. But, if the surprises are worth it, then I won’t mind sticking around longer.
